Within the framework of the work purposes of the Office of the Historian of the City of Havana, all of them related to the preservation and management of the Cultural Heritage, primarily Cuban, in June 2012 the Esteban Salas Musical Heritage Cabinet was created as an entity specialized in the study of documentary sources related to the musical fact. It bears the name of Esteban Salas (Havana, 1725-Santiago de Cuba, 1803), first composer of which scores are preserved on the island. The musical heritage of Cuba is an important part of our cultural history; it reflects the development and projection of various aesthetic, technical and ideological currents, and groups together a set of scores, instruments, documents related to the management and dissemination of musical activity, iconographic expressions and phonograms. For the safeguarding of the rich musical heritage, the Esteban Salas Musical Heritage Cabinet has a multidisciplinary team of specialists trained in musicology, sociology and history with the aim of studying the musical document from various angles.
